Want to know what we have been doing this year in PWGA. 2009
was a great year, we continue to work on improving our member services
and our support of women’s golf in Northern California. Please
take a look at our Annual Report.
Sacramento, Calif., December 17, 2009 – One of the area’s
most beautiful golf courses fell victim to a fire this past summer.
Approximately seven acres of riparian habitat at Mather Golf Course
adjacent to the 10th, 11th, 12th and 18th holes caught fire during
the day while golfers played their rounds. Most of the trees burned
including the beautiful old willow that draped over the pond on the
11th hole.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation, in partnership with Sacramento County
Parks and Mather Golf Course has scheduled a volunteer workday for
the morning of January 16, 2010 to plant native trees in the area damaged
by fire this past summer. Volunteers for this event will be working
in small teams of 2-3 and will be trained in proper planting techniques,
mulching, staking and more. Register to volunteer by contacting Meredith
King, Volunteer Coordinator at meredith@sactree.com or
(916) 924-8733 x122. Be sure to mention the Mather Golf Course
planting and leave your contact information.
This is a unique opportunity to participate in restoring the beauty
to a public space we hold near and dear to our hearts. Help heal the
scars and ensure even more beautiful and functional golf course habitat
for the future.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation is a nonprofit organization leading efforts to build the best urban forest for the Sacramento region. We work with community partners and volunteers to bring trees to every neighborhood, business district, park, school and street. Our goal is to support the planting of 5-million trees in our region by the year 2025. This is important because of the many health and economic benefits that trees contribute to the overall quality of life of our neighborhoods and communities.
WORKSHOPS – Area Workshops are held annually within each area in February provide an opportunity for members to come and learn more about PWGA. The workshop offers all members Rules sessions, handicap chairs a Handicap System session and general info to all members about our competitions and Team Play. The area workshops are also a great venue for members to meet some of the Executive Board, their area board and to network with other women from clubs within their area.
