Do you know about the eGolfer Service?

eGolfer is an online dashboard designed to assist golfers in organizing their golf network through the use of widgets.  This dashboard is available to all golfers using the GHIN Service, regardless if they belong to a club that uses eClubhouse or not!

The myGame dashboard has several views with a selected primary focus on scores or scoring statistics.  Additionally, widgets will supplement the primary focus view with information relevant and personalized for the golfer.  The golfer can also select an area of interest through the use of a Zip Code setting, which will then display news, events or weather applicable to the chosen area.

The eGolfer widgets include:

  • eClubhouse News that is populated from eClubhouse Web sites in the local area based on the Zip Code. If the golfer is a member of a club using eClubhouse, the club's news will be displayed as well.  Additionally, this new widget will display content from golf associations; GHIN or the USGA®; and from eClubhouse club sites within the golfers selected area that have public information to publish.
  • Events/MyEvents is a widget that displays events from the golfer’s association; club and clubs within the golfers selected area that have open events.  Once a golfer signs up for an event, it becomes listed under MyEvents.
  • MyStats is a robust round tracking and graphing capability that allows golfers to post hole-by-hole metrics and see trends represented in selected graphs for specified periods of play.
  • My Club Photo Album shows photo albums from the golfer’s club eClubhouse site.
  • USGA Handicap Index® shows the golfer’s current Index with its effective date.
  • My Courses shows courses the golfer has played recently and allows selection, display and editing capabilities.
  • My Weather is a widget that shows current temperature as well as the Hi and Low temperatures for the golfer’s selected area.  This widget also acts as a hyperlink to a pop-up Web page of more detailed weather content.
  • News Clippings is a golf RSS News feed of national stories of interest to golfers.
  • Search for other Players allows the golfer to search for other golfers to arrange a round of golf, based on their availability, ability and distance from the selected area or within eClubhouse.

PWGA helps Veterans through the UVS (United Voluntary Service) Swing Club.

United Voluntary Service  Here is a copy of the letter that PWGA Past President Dotty  Holliday sent to her Mather WGC, reporting on the UVS Golf Tounament  - where they presented the Swing Club with a check for $2000.  Thanks to generous contributions of Mather WGC and indeed many PWGA member clubs, this Veterans Golf Rehabilitation program continues to be a success.  Dotty thank you and all the women at Mather WGC.

“On July 28 I accompanied the PWGA Vice President, Diana Davis to Moffet Field where a golf tournament had been arranged for the disabled vets who are at the VA hospital in Menlo Park. There were many PWGA ladies there from the local clubs and some from San Francisco as well. Special Tees were set up about 125 yards from each green , for nine holes. Additionally, there was a putting tournament for those vets whose disability kept them from being able to play a golf game. There were both men and women vets, about 50, as I recall, and they had a great time. Those of us from the PWGA drove the carts as the vets are not allowed to do that, and some helped the wheelchair vets with the putting tournament.  There were trophies for the winners and everyone cheered as the winners were announced. After the tournament, there was a little picnic lunch and I presented The head of Menlo Parks Recreation and Rhabilitation Unit, with othe 2000.00 check that we at Mather had raised at the Lady Liberty Tournament. She told me that they could not have these special golf events which mean so much to the vets without our help. Many of the vets came up to me and personally thanked me.  The Thank you belongs to all of you who supported this tournament, and to all your guests. Please let your guests know about this. It is important that they know how much it means to these men and women who have given so much for this great country of ours".

Thanks to everyone
Dotty Holliday

    HANDICAP – PRIMER

What are the different types of clubs?

Within an association a club is defined as one of three types.

Type 1 – members at Type 1 clubs are located at a single specific golf course with a valid USGA Course and Slope Rating where the majority of the club’s events are played and where the club’s scoring records reside.  These clubs are also called “green-grass clubs”.  An example of a Type 1 club is Stevinson Ranch LGC located on the Stevinson Ranch Golf Course.  There are 218 Type 1 clubs in PWGA.

Type 2 – the members of a Type 2 club are affiliated, or known to one another, via a business, fraternal, ethnic, or social organization.  The majority of the club members had an affiliation prior to the organizing of the club. This is often a working-woman’s club, providing them an opportunity to play together on weekends.   An example of this is Bay Area WGC; they play at various courses throughout the year.  There are five Type 2 clubs within PWGA.

Type 3 – the members of a Type 3 club have no prior affiliation and a majority of the recruiting and sign up of membership is done by solicitation to the public (i.e. newspaper, Internet).  These clubs are also known as Internet clubs.  Examples of this type of club are the eight Area eClubs which have been established.  Signup for games is handled through the Internet.  For someone who has an irregular schedule or who can’t join a “green-grass” club because of work scheduling, this is a perfect solution.

No matter what type of club you belong to, Type 1, 2 or 3, you are encouraged to play in any Area playday.  Just contact the Area Tournament Chair in the area in which the tournament is scheduled.  When posting games, the only difference between the three types is that Type 3 clubs require that a golf course name be entered.
